Wu School Art Association's First Annual Exhibition 2013 吳門畫會首屆年展


吳門畫派經由周士心教授承先啟後,繼任文化傳承,在溫哥華發揚光大。數十年間追隨之門生弟子不可勝數。今創立【吳門畫會】,期許將吳門畫風在北美洲和海外弘揚,再次鼎盛。

The Wu School Art Association, under the guidance of renowned Chinese artist Su-Sing (Johnson) Chow, has gained a formidable reputation in Vancouver. Over the decades, its pupils continue to grow, spreading the Wu School Art style across North America and throughout the world.

With the support of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver, the Wu School Art Association will showcase its works in our venue. Xuan is a member of The Society of Children’s Book Writer & Illustrators (SCBWI) and a distinguished artist throughout the Chinese and North American art community. He has worked in a variety of categories including oil painting, acrylic painting, pottery, sculpture, paper cutting and ceramic painting. His illustrations published by Holiday House and spider and Cricket Magazine have won him many awards.

宣永生為中國及北美著名美術家及北美兒童文學即插畫會會員,創作範圍涵括油畫、陶瓷、雕塑、剪紙、磁畫等, 其為假日出版社及蜘蛛與蟋蟀雜誌的兒童插畫曾多次在北美獲獎.

Expressive Drawing - Art Class for Adults - Instructor: Joey Mallett 成年人美術課(英語授課)

Course description:


This course is a beginning course for adults wishing to learn basic techniques and approaches to the creative process. Participants will be guided to tap into their innate creative source, using freeing and affirming exercises to relax and loosen up.  From doodling and automatic drawing to planning out a large scale drawing, we will explore the elements of design and composition, including use of line, texture, form, working with light sources to create dramatic effects, and other useful techniques, using graphite, charcoal, ink, and pastels. Weather permitting we will take advantage of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park as a source of inspiration.

Please bring a sketchbook and drawing pencils to the first class. A list of additional materials will be given on the first day.

Duration of course: 6 wks
Class length: 3 hrs

Dates: Fridays from April  5 – May 10
Time: 9:30am – 12:30pm
Cost: $150
Classes will be taught in English.

About the Instructor:

The Power of Visual Journals

Course description:

Designed with teens in mind, this course is an exciting opportunity for self-expression. Using re-purposed books, participants will map out their personal stories, expanding their imaginations to integrate collage, paint, lettering, stamping, and many other techniques.  Re-purposed books provide a unique opportunity to create your own artful story. Come and have fun creating with others.


A fee of $10 will be applied for art supplies. Re-purposed books will be provided.

Duration of course: 6 wks
Class length: 2 hrs

Dates: Fridays from April  5 – May 10 
Time: 3:30 – 5:30
Cost: $120
Classes will be taught in English

About the Instructor:

Joey Mallett is a visual artist with over 20 years of experience. She has worked with youth in schools through Art Starts and on many public mural projects around Vancouver. She is certified in expressive arts therapy.  Currently working with students from Burnaby North on a large mural project.
